Armed Robbery: One Arrested, Suspect(s) Sought
Lexington Police arrested a Woburn man for armed robbery and are seeking at least one other suspect in connection with an early morning incident on Homestead Street.
Police in Lexington have arrested a Woburn man who was overcome by a group of young people he was allegedly trying to rob early this morning on Homestead Street.
The seach continues for at least one other suspect police are looking for in connection with the early-morning altercation.
According to a press release from the Lexington Police Department, a Homestead Street resident called police at 1:26 a.m. today, June 15, and reported an ongoing disturbance. Officers arrived at the scene to find several young people had overcome a Woburn man who had tried to rob them at gunpoint.
The man, identified as William Richard Najjar, 23, of 960 rear Main Street, Woburn, was taken into custody and is charged with armed robbery while masked, armed assault with the intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, several counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and resisting arrest.
“At least one other suspect is being sought by police and the matter remains an open an ongoing investigation,” the press release said.
Police confirmed the Massachusetts State Police Airwing was in the area earlier today, June 15, assisting with the search. Shortly before noontime today, police said they were no longer searching the area, but would not say why.
Police also said the incident likely occurred in or around an out house behind a Homestead Street residence, but did not immediately answer questions about activities at the home in question.
