The Lexington Chamber of Commerce’s annual Summer Concert Series returns this Friday, July 13, with a set by the Benjamin Road Band and runs through Aug. 31, when Irish music outfit Boston Blackthorne performs on the Visitors Center lawn.
The concert series has been a summer staple for more than 30 years now, according to Chamber Director Mary Jo Bohart, who said the popular Friday night tradition attracts an audience from Lexington and surrounding towns.
This year’s lineup includes a combination of new and returning acts, and the assortment of musical styles ranges from big band brass to boogie woogie to pop rock. The Chamber recommends that concertgoers come equipped with lawn chairs, picnic blankets and a take-out order from one of the nearby Lexington Center eateries.
“The series began years ago as a seasonal form of free entertainment in the downtown during summer, to increase foot traffic to the dining and shopping businesses of Lexington Center,” Bohart told Patch in an email interview. “Although many nearby communities have their own summer concerts, Lexington’s Friday evening format serves as a fantastic way to conclude the work week.”
