Citizens' Academy Coming Up

The 10-session Academy starts mid-September, so sign up now as spaces are limited.

The following information was provided by Michelle Stevens, management intern for the Town of Lexington.

The third annual Lexington Citizens’ Academy will begin in mid-September.

The 10-session Academy is specifically designed to familiarize citizens with the departments and services of Lexington’s town government. Sessions will be held mainly on Thursday evenings, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Participants will attend interactive workshops led by town and school staff at their respective facilities. Through presentations, discussions and visits to various departments, residents will gain a deeper understanding of how Lexington's Town government operates.

In addition, the Academy will promote two-way dialogue between town staff and residents, and communicate opportunities for public involvement.

Citizens’ Academy topics include: an overview of the Town of Lexington, Town Clerk’s Office, Recreation, Town Financials and Budget, Public Works, Emergency Services, Safety Services, Community Development, Schools, Town Meeting and Information Services.

There is no fee for attending the Academy. Early registration is suggested, as the Academy will be limited to 30 participants.

Efforts will be made to be inclusive of all age groups. Preference will be given to those who have not previously served on any town boards or committees, and those with fewer than five years of experience as Town Meeting Members.

For further information, or to register, please contact Michelle Stevens in the Town Manager’s Office, at mstevens@lexingtonma.gov, or via phone at (781) 862-0500 x 209.
