Community Mourns Loss of Lexington Resident Killed in Skiiing Accident
As a coach, friend, father and husband, James Wong touched a lot of lives. In the days after tragic death in a Feb. 4 skiing accident, hundreds have taken to the web to honor Wong's memory and pledge to help his family.
Following the unexpected death of Lexington resident and Bank of America VP James Wong in a skiing accident last Saturday, friends and family members set up a website and fund to honor his memory and support his family.
On the memorial page, dozens of shared memories and expressed condolences paint a picture of the 41-year-old Wong as a devoted father, husband, son, brother, family member and friend.
“He gave his all to his top priorities in life: family, work and personal commitments like friendships and coaching,” the memorial page says. “Friends and family alike loved him for his seriousness and depth as much for his mischievous sense of humor. He was a salesman, a pool shark, a comedian, an athlete, a storyteller, a traveler, a leader.”
Wong died Saturday, Feb. 4 after crashing into a tree at Sugarbush Resort, where he was skiing with this wife and two children. Photos posted to the online album show Wong smiling with family members, skiing, partying, coaching youth sports and waiting for Santa at the Depot.
By mid-week, the community was coming together in force to support the Wong/McEwen family as it copes with its sudden, tragic loss.
On the Lotsa Helping Hands website, more than 160 people had signed up to provide meals to the family. As well, the Bowman School PTA established a fund to collect donations to support the family in both the short and long term.
Donations may be made through the Bowman School PTA directly at the Cambridge Trust Company branch in Lexington Center. Checks should be made out to the Bowman PTA, with "For the Wong/McEwen Family" added on the memo line.
According to the PTA, the fund is a temporary holding account until the family’s needs are better understood. Any questions can be directed to Betsy Wilkinson at betsy@myemline.com.
A wake will be held Friday, Feb. 10 at Douglass Funeral Home in Lexington. Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. for family and 6 to 8 p.m. for friends.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Hancock United Church of Christ. Additional parking will be available at St. Brigid's and Church of Our Redeemer.
