Discussion: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential Changes to Lextended Day?

Weigh in on this week's topic in the comments section below.

Each week in Moms Talk, our Moms Council will take your questions, give advice and share solutions on parenting topics. And we want all of you moms, dads, grandparents and families to join the discussion too.

Moms Talk will be the place to drop in to hear what your neighbors think about the latest parenting topics, or to find resources or ask a question. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today.

(You can meet the Moms Council members by clicking here, and e-mail me at abby@patch.com if you'd like to join the council, or suggest a topic for next week's discussion.)

Today's Discussion Topic: Lextended Day

For almost 30 years, many working parents of elementary school students have used Lextended Day, a non-profit after school program held at Estabrook and Hastings elementary schools.

Superintendent Paul Ash is asking the School Committee to entertain using a for-profit corporation and will discuss this with the members at today's (March 23) meeting at Clarke Middle School at 6:15 p.m.

What do you think about changing the existing extended day program? Are kids and parents happy with the current program? Is it affordable now? Do you want change, or a choice?

Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

About this column: "Moms Talk Q & A" is a place for parents to drop-in and discuss a different topic weekly. Related Topics: MomTalk

Lextended day was a great program for my kids (now in college or at LHS.) I don't see the advantage of going with a for profit provider, especially not to the parents who will likely face higher costs.
