1. Oakheart Rum Tasting

Why Go: Because you've almost certainly heard the commercials about that new spiced and smoky rum for the "modern day adventurer."

2. Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Yeomen of the Guard"
Where/When: 117 Church St, Carlisle; 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12 and w p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13
Why Go: Check out an innocent man with his head on the chopping block as the "Yeomen of the Guard" brings the Tower of London to bucolic Carlisle in this Savoyard Light Opera Company production.

3. Metropolitan Wind Symphony Band Concert: "At Kitty O'Shea's"
Where/When: Cary Memorial Building, 1605 Massachusetts Ave; 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13
Why Go: The Metropolitan Wind Symphony's first concert of the season opens with "Sousa on the Hoof," a piece put together years ago by MWS Music director Lewis Buckley, and its title piece, "At Kitty O'Shea's" is an Irish Folk Song Suite for wind orchestra.

4. Lexington Community Education presents: Cinderella Ate My Daughter: An Afternoon with Peggy Orenstein
Where/When: Lexington Depot, 15 Depot Square; 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13
Why Go: Because, according to our calendar listing, "In her latest book, 'Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front Line of the New Girlie Girl Culture,' Orenstein sets out to discover the origins and ramifications of this cultural shift with the keen perceptions of a seasoned journalist, the emotional investment of a mother, and a wittiness that’s all her own."

5. Panel Discussion on Sexual Identity
Where/When: Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Massachusetts Ave; 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13
Why Go: Titled "Living a Whole Life: The Stories of Hancock GLBT Members and Friends" this panel discussion seeks to present an "open dialogue on the topics of sexual equality and inclusiveness."
