Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 24

Today in Lexington

1. Town Construction Project Updates: The town recently updated the construction schedules posted to its website with new information about manhole and sewer replacements on Sherman Street and paving plans for next week on Mass Ave and Lincoln Street.

2. Rally for Aly: In case you haven't heard, local Olympian Aly Raisman will be celebrated this Sunday, Aug. 26, in a "Rally for Ally" announced last week by the town of Needham.

3. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, the only public meeting posted for today is the 2020 Vision Committee at 7:45 a.m. at the Town Office Building.

4. Getting Back to School: The Lexington Public Schools begin the 2012-2013 school year next week as teachers return on Monday and students for a partial day on Tuesday and full day on Wednesday. In recent weeks, we've been putting together a Back to School Guide, which we'll continue to populate over the next week or so. Check it out!

5. Sunny Day, Cool Night: Should be mostly sunny today with a high of 83, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a partly cloudy and cool evening with a low around 60.
