Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 20
Hanukkah starts, School Committee considers school building projects and more today in Lexington.
1. Hanukkah: Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, begins today and is celebrated Dec. 20 to Dec. 28 this year. Today, the holiday, which commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean revolt in the second centure BC, is celebrated with the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, games and gifts, according to History.com.
2. Estabrook and Enrollment Projections: The School Committee is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Cary Memorial Building and its agenda includes voting to approve the Permanent Building Committee's recommendation on the Estabrook School Project, and four and 10-year enrollment forecasts.
3. High School Hoops: Lexington High's boys and girls basketball squads host Wilmington the evening. The girls tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the boys team to follow at 7 p.m. at Lexington High School.
4. Coats for Kids: Over in Winchester, Hammond Residential Real Living Real Estate is hosting a Coats of Kids drive from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
5. Cooler and Breezy: Should be sunny, but a little colder with temps around 36 and wind gusts of up to 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a cloudy evening with overnight lows dipping to 21.
