Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 29

Alex the Jester, a little high school sports and more today in Lexington.

 

 

1. Alex the Jester: If you're looking for entertainment as the school vacation week winds down, Alex the Jester will be appearing at Cary Memorial Library at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

2. Today in High School Sports: Lexington High's girls varsity and JV basketball squad heads to Concord-Carlisle for a 4 p.m. tip for the jayvees with varsity to follow, while the boys varsity team continues play at the Garden City Tournament and the boys junior varisty hockey squad hosts Woburn High.

3. Debt Exclusion: For information regarding the Jan. 24 debt exclusion vote on renovating the Bridge and Bowman elementary schools and building a new Estabrook, check out the Appropriation Committee report, available on the town website.

4. Sing-A-Long Sound of Music: Searching for something silly to do this evening? Head over to the Regent Theatre in Arlington at 7 p.m. for the a sing-a-long performance of the "Sound of Music." The evening begins with a live show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the fancy dress competition and award the prizes. Costumes are encouraged, but not compulsory. Cost is $15 for adults, $12 for kids and seniors.

5. Sunny and Cold: Should be sunny but wintery today, with temperatures expected to hit a high of just 32, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts an increasingly cloudy evening with overnight lows of 27.
