Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 20

A little wine, a full slate of high school sports and all that jazz today in Lexington.

 

1. Jazz Up Your Evening: Lexington High School will host Jazz Nite 2, a free concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight in which students of the Seminar in Jazz Improvisation class will play student-composed jazz tunes, and Jazz Combo and Jazz Septet join the evening playing some jazz standards.

2. Wine Tasting: Taste wines with Paul Doble from Grape Moments from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Busa Wine & Spirits on Mass Ave in Lexington.

3. Today in High School Sports: It's a full slate of games for Lexington High athletics: the girls junior varisty basketball team hosts Belmont High at 3:30 p.m.; the boys and girls freshman hoops squads travel to Belmont for 3:30 p.m. tips;the boys junior varsity hoops team takes on Belmont at home at 5 p.m. and the girls varsity hoopsters tip-off against Belmont High at 5:30 p.m. at home while the boys varisty quad hosts Belmont at 7 p.m. In wrestling action, the boys varisty wrestlers are at Arlington High for a 4 p.m. matchup. And, in ice hockey, the girls junior varsity team is at Belmont for a 5:45 p.m. faceoff and the boys junior varsity team travels to Medford High for an 8 p.m. contest.

4. Today in Public Meetings: Not too much today in terms of public meetings posted on the town website, but the Bowman School Council is meeting at 7:45 a.m. at Bowman Elementary and the Bridge School Council is meeting at 8 a.m. at Bridge Elementary.

5. Sunny and Chilly: Should be sunny and clear today, with highs of 33, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts increasing clouds overnight, with lows of around 11 and a chance of snow, mainly after 5 a.m.
