Five Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 14

Wine tastings, Cronin lecture series, possible t-storms and future planning today in Lexington.

 

1. Wake up with the 2020 Vision Committee, which meets at 7:45 a.m. at the Town Office Building. The agenda includes goal renewal and measurement; a follow up on Demographic Change Task Force recommendations and a report on the Sept. 27 Community Conversation.

2. From 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Cary Memorial Library, check out the Cary Memorial Library Foundation's third annual wine tasting event to benefit the library's collections.  

3. Author Adam Goodhart will speak on his bestselling book "1861: The Civil War Awakening" at the Lexington Depot at 8 p.m. tonight as part of the Lexington Historical Society's Cronin Lecture Series.

4. At Busa Wine and Spirits' Bedford Street location, there's a Fat Bastard Wine Tasting at 4 p.m. From every bottle sold during September and October, Fat Bastard Wines donates 25 cents to breast cancer awareness causes.

5. Showers are expected and thunderstorms possible, with highs of about 68, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts potentially heavy rains overnight and lows of 56.
