Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 19

National Backpack Awareness Day, a LexFUN! open house, Girl Scout Signup and more today in Lexington.

 

1. National Backpack Awareness Day: Spaulding Outpatient Center for Children Lexington is celebrating their second annual Backpack Awareness Day with a free event from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1 Maguire Road. All patients, families, and community members are invited to attend, and therapists will be available to discuss and identify properly fitting backpacks to ensure your child’s safety. 

2. LexFUN! Open House: There's a chance to learn all about LexFUN! and celebrate the Five and Under Network's 70th anniversary at an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Cary Library.

3. Girl Scout Sign Up: The Lexington Girl Scouts will kick off the year by hosting a Girl Scout sign up day from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Hancock UCC Church Dining Room.

4. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, public meetings posted for today include the Lexington Center Committee at 8 a.m. at the Town Office Building; the Transportation Advisory Committee at 3 p.m. at the Town Office Building; the Recreation Committee at 5:30 p.m. at the Worthen Road entrance to Lincoln Park; the ad hoc Cary Memorial Building Committee at 6:30 p.m. at Cary Hall; the Board of Health at 7 p.m. at the Town Office Building; the Town Celebration Committee at 7 p.m. at the DPW Building; the Planning Board at 7:30 p.m. at Cary Hall and the Community Center Task Force at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Office Building. 

5. Rain Today, Clouds Tonight: Rain, mainly before noon and a high of around 68, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a partly cloudy evening with a low of 46.
