Five Things You Need to Know Today: Sept 29
Rosh Hashanah, town celebrations and a blood drive today in and around Lexington.
1. Lexington Public Schools are closed today for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which is celebrated this year from sundown on Sept. 28 to nightfall on Sept. 30. According to the HuffPost Religion, Many traditional Rosh Hashanah foods, such apples and honey, raisin challah and honey cake -- are eaten, in part, as a nod to the common Rosh Hashanah greeting, "Shana tovah u'metukah," Hebrew for 'a good and sweet new year.'
2. There's a Rosh Hashanah celebration over at Barefoot Books in Concord, which is hosting a story and craft session for kids, starting at 10:30 a.m. Storytime is free; crafts are $3.
3. Only public meeting posted for today on the town website is Town Celebrations at 7 p.m. at the Cary Memorial Building.
4. Feeling generous? Head over to Arlington and give blood. The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. at Arlington Town Hall.
5. Showers expected early, and thunderstorms are possible after 11 a.m., with highs of about 73, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a mostly cloudy evening with likely showers and lows of 59.
