Lexington Golf Loses Battle of League's Best

First-place Reading beats second-place Lexington on Thursday.

The Reading Memorial High golf team defeated Lexington High School's squad 29-43 in a Middlesex League match at Pine Meadows Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.

Reading improves to 7-0 on the season, while the Minutemen drop to 6-2. The two are first and second in the league.

"It was a matchup of the two best teams in the league," Lexington coach Rick Thibeault said. "Reading was just the better team."

Thibeault said the match was closer than the final score showed. As evidence, the coach cited Lexington No. 1 Jeffrey Lang's loss. He fell by one stroke, but shot a 33 on the par-35 course.

Brian DelGreco was the only Minuteman to win his match, Thibeault said. The junior shot a 39 in the No. 2 position.

Lexington will play again Wednesday, when it takes on Concord-Carlisle and Hudson in a non-league tri-match.
