Lexington's 300th: Behold the Golden Tricorns

Forget 'Game of Thrones.' We've got Game of Golden Tricorns.

Like leaves on trees and budding flowerbeds, tricorn hats are a harbinger of springtime in Lexington.

Except only this year they’re going to look at little different.

As part of Lexington’s 300th anniversary celebration and the LexCelebrate! Incorporation Weekend, a smattering of the three-cornered hats will have a golden hue on Saturday, March 16, as a dozen event organizers will don decorated hats and additional golden gilded tricons will be displayed in the art wing at Lexington High.

Following the LexCelebrate! Festivities, the golden tricorns will disappear, temporarily, to become a part of a townwide game of hide-and-seek.

You can read more about the game here on Patch, but the gist of it is that a dozen or better of these golden tricorn hats, decorated by local artisans, will be hidden at locations around town—including at local businesses like Michelson’s Shoes and Sweet Beads in Lexington Center—for residents to find.

"This will be an imaginative feature of our celebration and will help decorate the town," said Jessie Steigerwald, the Lexington 300thh Anniversary Celebration Events co-chair, in a press release.

The first person to find each hat will claim it. However, after each hat is found, it will remain on display in its shop window during April until the designated time when the finders can collect them as a memento of the anniversary celebration. According to the terms of the game, one hat can be claimed per household.
