Police Explain Foot Pursuit, Morning Arrest in Bedford

After allegedly peeking into cars and standing on decks in a Lexington neighborhood, a Bedford man reportedly gave police and canine searchers the slip from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning before his arrest by Bedford Police for breaking and entering

Repeated led to an overnight foot pursuit and, eventually, the Wednesday morning arrest by Bedford Police of a Bedford man.

According to the , shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, police were alerted to a possible suspicious person in the area of Reed Street and Blinn Road. 

Police reports say the suspicious white male, described as being in his 20s or 30s and wearing a gray sweatshirt, was allegedly walking around, possibly peeking into cars and allegedly climbing onto at least one resident’s back deck.

While checking the area, offices observed the suspect, who fled from police. Subsequently, Lexington police scoured the area with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, Bedford Police and canine units from the Waltham and Winchester Police departments. 

According to LPD Lt. James Barry, police spotted a man matching the report’s description around 11:30 p.m., established a perimeter and searched until around 1:30 or 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, when canines lost the scent in the area of Rte. 128/95 and the Pine Meadows Golf Course.

The Bedford Police Department answered Lexington’s call just before 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night, according to their shift logs. 

And then, around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, Bedford PD received a call reporting a man matching the suspect’s description was spotted in the parking lot of Toxikon, a clinical research organization located at 15 Wiggins Ave. in Bedford.

According to the incident report, the caller told police a suspicious male showed up at the rear of the parking lot and claimed he was fishing, but had no fishing gear and appeared to be “cut up.” 

Responding officers reported the man fled in the woods toward the cemetery and, shortly thereafter, Bedford Police received a call from a Curve Street resident reporting an unknown male was on the back porch.

Bedford officers who responded to the scene reported placing Brendan Reilly, 25, of 17 Reeves Road, Bedford, under arrest for breaking and entering. According to the police report, Reilly was transported to Emerson Hospital.
