Shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, Lexington Fire responded to a reported fire at St. Paul Evangelical Church on Lowell Street in Lexington.

According to an LFD captain on the scene, the fire started in an amplifier unit to an organ and was extinguished before it could spread. Although there was no extension, the extent of smoke damage caused by the minor blaze is unclear.

Scanner reports said emergency responders were working to protect the church’s stained glass windows, but there did not appear to be any structural damage to the Evangelical church.

According to members of the chuch community, Sunday morning service was cancelled for Aug. 19, but the regular Sunday schedule will be in effect for the next week.
