Bob Massie, the first Democrat to step forward as a challenger for the U.S. Senate seat occupied by Republican Scott Brown, will be in town tomorrow to meet with local media and local Dems.

At 7 p.m., the former Lt. Governor candidate from Somerville will address the Lexington Democratic Town Committee at the Cary Memorial Library.

According to a media release, Massie built a career as a minister, activist, candidate and non-profit executive.

After becoming rustrated with the system while working as a preacher to help those in need, Massie ventured into the corporate world in an attempt to make greater changes here an abroad, the release said.

To that end, Massie has served as President of Ceres, a coalition of investors and environmental groups, and co-founded the Global Reporting Initiative, which reports on corporate performance on energy, labor, the environment and human rights, according to his website.

This is not Massie's first foray into politics. In 1994, he traveled across Massachusetts as the Lieutenant Governor candidate, when he was on the Democratic ticket with Mark Roosevelt.

"Since that time, Bob faced and overcame daunting medical challenges," his presser said. "Today, he is healthy, active and ready to campaign for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate against Scott Brown."

He may have been the first, but Massie is not the only Democrat with his sights set on Brown's seat.  Other candidates include City Year founder Alan Khazei and Newton Mayor Setti Warren.
