The Higgins Group, located on Lincoln Street in Lexington and The Great Road in Bedford, is opening a third, more central real estate office at 1688 Massachusetts Ave. in Lexington.

Owner Diane Higgins said she initially opened the Lincoln Street shop more than six years ago and later opened the second location in Bedford on The Great Road. The newest office, expected to open in early October, will incorporate employees from the other offices.  

“We’re keeping part of our space here at Lincoln Street, but opening the main office downtown,” she said. “We are keeping the best of both worlds.”

Higgins said Boston designer Dotty Volpe will create a colorful office with a nod toward the future. It’s more café-style, Higgins said and won’t have traditional assigned desks. “[It’s] more personable with an open feel and modern bold colors,” she said.

Although it’s still in the preliminary design stage, Higgins foresees a lively office to house part of the biggest independent real estate business in Lexington. There are, she said, 52 agents at Higgins.

“That part of the center is much more vibrant,” she said comparing Lincoln and Mass. Ave. and noted the activity generated by Panera Bread and a few other shops.

She’s still looking at approval from a few of Lexington’s official boards, but hopes for an Oct. 1 opening.
