Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, the Lexington Fire Department responded to a reported tractor-trailer fire on Route 2, in the area of Exit 54 and Waltham Street. According to Fire Chief John Wilson, the cab of a trailer dump caught on fire and was quickly engulfed, becoming a total loss.

The driver escaped the cab without injury, and firefighters were able to knock down the blaze fairly quickly, according to Wilson, who said there were no injuries or complications related to the firefighting efforts on the afternoon as temps climbed up around 90.

“With the extreme heat, the guys did an excellent job knocking it down,” Wilson said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., Wilson said the fire had been completely extinguished and lanes were reopening to allow traffic to flow freely again.

At the same time, the Department of Environmental Protection and local Conservation Commission were responding to the scene to ensure that runoff from fighting the fire did not affect nearby wetlands.
