Under the Influence and Under Arrest: A Shoeless Man and Heroin in a Minivan
One driver allegedly had drugs in his system and in his vehicle. Another allegedly intoxicated motorist abandoned his vehicle in the middle of Waltham Street. Both were placed under arrest for operating under the influence.
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" component of an upcoming Click It or Ticket mobilization won't kick off until Dec. 16, but a pair of incidents involving drivers operating under the influence kept Lexington Police busy this past weekend.
Around 5 p.m. last Friday, Dec. 9, officers received a call from a motorist who reported following a vehicle driving erratically down Massachusetts Avenue, swerving and almost hitting three other vehicles as it made its way into town from the Arlington line.
The responding officer pulled over the vehicle in question, a Dodge Caravan, by the Church of St. Brigid’s on Mass Ave. After speaking with the operator, identified as John Robert Stocki, 21, of 9 Judges Road, Lexington, police arrested Stocki and charged him with operating under the influence of drugs and possession of a Class A substance (heroin).
According to the police report, officers found heroin, syringes and marijuana inside the vehicle. Stocki will also receive a civil citation for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to Lt. James Barry, a spokesman for the Lexington Police Department.
This was not Stocki’s first run-in with local law enforcement. According to Patch archives, Lexington Police arrested Stocki multiple times last year for theft drug-related offenses, including one instance in which he was charged with shoplifting and possession of a Class A substance after allegedly stealing Chapstick from the CVS on Mass Ave, and a pair of arrests on outside warrants.
The second OUI incident occurred early Sunday morning, when officers responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle on Waltham Street.
According to the police report, responding officers found an empty vehicle in the middle of the travel lane with its hazards on and a blanket in the front seat. Police soon found the vehicle’s registered owner, Victor G. Valenzuela, 23, of 25 Forest Acres Drive, Haverhill, walking around nearby with no shoes on his feet.
Officers quickly determined Valenzuela was intoxicated and was, in fact, operating the vehicle and placed him under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol.
