White Tricorne Hat: Lexington Lions Club Looking for Nominations
Also announcing changes to the nomination and presentation plans for this year.
The following informaiton was provided by the Lexington Lions Club.
The Lexington Lions Club will present, as it has each year since 1954, a White Tricorne Hat honoring an outstanding resident of Lexington. This year’s award will be presented by Lions Club President Stacy Sheehan. The Lions Club is now soliciting nominations for this honor from the public.
The Lions Club has revised the 2013 White Tricorne Hat Nomination and Presentation Plans. Instead of presenting the 2013 Recipient on Patriots Day morning on the Battle Green, we will instead be presenting the award on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at Cary Hall. The presentation will be made prior to the start of that Town Meeting session. This will allow the 2013 White Tricorne Recipient to ride in the “Patriots Day” Parade on Sunday, April 14, and is due to the Lexington 300th Committee’s Patriots Day weekend celebration schedule changes.
The award criteria that the White Tricorne Hat Committee uses to judge the nominees are as follows:
- First, the candidate must be a current resident of Lexington and not a major elective office holder.
- Second, the candidate must have demonstrated a dedication to the principles of outstanding citizenship and must have advanced the American way of life in Lexington by giving unselfishly of his or her time and talents over the years beyond the normal bounds of his or her occupation.
- The award is made without regard to sex, race, or religious affiliation.
The committee is composed not only of a representative of the Lexington Lions Club, but also of a representative of each of the following organizations: Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association, Lexington Rotary Club, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Lexington Lodge of Elks and the Lexington Historical Society.
In addition, the two most recent recipients of the award are voting members of the committee. This year, they are the 2011 recipient John Carroll and the 2012 recipient Eric Carlson.
Nomination forms are available online at www.lexingtonlions.org, as well as at the following businesses in Lexington: Michelson’s Shoes, Lexington Coin, Cambridge Trust and Wales Copy Shop. Also, please check our website for recently added locations.
Completed forms, and any letters of support for a nominee, should be mailed to the Chairman, John Doran, c/o Lexington Lions, P. O. Box 71, Lexington, MA 02420. Nomination forms and supporting letters must be received by March 29. This deadline is a week earlier than usual, due to the date change for presenting the award.
The committee sincerely hopes that a large number of nominations are received and that they include all the many talented and generous people in Lexington who are truly deserving of this award. The committee will then have the difficult task, as it always has, of selecting the one best nominee for the award. Past recipients are ineligible.
