“Freak Show,” an original play featuring eighth-graders from Diamond Middle School, ushers the audience into the minds of middle-schoolers — a trip that turns out to be as scary, and perhaps a little more perceptive, than one might expect. “Like the opening line, it’s definitely true: middle school is the most absurd environment imaginable,” said Spencer Hobbs, a member of the cast. “The real world is scary, but middle school isn’t much better.”  From bullying to the invisible boy to a young gamer who goes so deep into his fantasy world that his parents are encouraged that he at least has Facebook friends, the skits provide smart yet ridiculous social commentary that aptly parallels the craziness of middle school life with a carnival – a “…

Ceramics Guild May Pottery Sale: A wide assortment of ceramic wares and prices to fit every budget crafted by members of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society's Ceramics Guild will be on sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow, May 12, in an annual event to raise money to help LACS continue providing the community with quality arts programming and classes. 2. 'Purple Hearts' Punctuating Munroe Saturday Nights

The venue is shifting to First Parish next Saturday, May 12, for a staged reading of Playwright Merrill Meadow's gripping drama, "Purple Hearts."

Don't miss the final presentation in Munroe Saturday Nights' 2012 season: A staged reading of llaywright Merrill Meadow's gripping drama, "Purple Hearts." This production will be presented on Saturday, May 12th at 7:30 p.m., at First Parish in Lexington, 7 Harrington Road.  The performance benefits  two local arts organizations -- Munroe Center for the Arts' Community Programs and the Sheltering Arts program (which brings writing and performance experiences to women in the South Middlesex Correctional Center). The second annual FOLMADS Art Auction will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 11 at the Lexington Depot, with art works and classes up for bid to benefit the Friends of Lexington Music, Art and Drama Students. Enjoy an afternoon of light refreshments, music and fine art at the second annual FOLMADS Art Auction. Auction items include photographs, paintings, and ceramics by Lexington Public School’s talented Fine Arts Faculty and juried pieces by students.
