The following announcement was provided by the campaign for Jeff Semon, a Lexington Republican seeking to unseat U.S. Rep. Ed Markey in the 5th Congressional District. Jeff Semon, a Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District, is proud to announce that former chairman of the Melrose Republican City Committee Scott Conway has endorsed his candidacy. Dolan Lands Two Endorsements in Race for Third

Concord Democrat Mara Dolan, a candidate for the opening 3rd Middlesex State Senate seat, announced endorsements from state Rep. Tom Conroy and U.S. Rep. Mike Capuano.

In the race for the open 3rd Middlesex State Senate seat, Concord Democrat Mara Dolan is getting a little help from her friends.  One of three Concordian candidates for the seat, opening upon the retirement of Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln, Dolan this week picked up endorsements from two lawmakers from the region.  The first, announced Monday, May 14, came from state Rep. Tom Conroy, D-Wayland. In a press release, Conroy calls Dolan a friend and said he hopes to serve together with her in the legislature. "We need more elected officials in Massachusetts like Mara Dolan,” Conroy said in a statement. "She is committed to good government, and has a sense of the right priorities — Democratic priorities — including job creation, affordable and high …

Stein's Croudsourcing for Prospective Green Party VP

The Lexington resident and presumptive Green Party presidential candidate is looking for online input regarding her running mate, plus her Mother's Day video and reaction to President Obama support for marriage equality.

Jill Stein, the Lexington resident and prospective Green Party presidential nominee, is crowdsourcing to select a running mate in her bid to give the White House a Green makeover. Earlier this week, Stein’s campaign announced she had crossed the 50 percent threshold to winning the Green Party’s 2012 nomination and had locked up 75 percent of all delegates, with the next nearest candidate—comedienne Roseanne Barr, who’s more concerned with platforms than the presidency—14 percent. With Stein’s stronghold on presumptive nominee status, queries have turned to the topic of a Green Party veep, and her team, in turn, is looking to the interwebs for suggestions. “Many have asked about who Jill Stein will choose as  her vice presidential running …

Brown and Warren: Is It Just Politics As Usual?

It’s been an interesting week in the U.S. Senate Race between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Republican Scott Brown.

First it was revealed that Harvard University once touted Elizabeth Warren’s marginal Native American heritage as proof of their faculty’s diversity. That story was followed up with another revealing one that Warren had listed herself as a minority professor between 1986 and 1995 in the Association of American Law Schools desk book, a major reference for legal professors. On Tuesday it was revealed that Scott Brown, the Republican who ran for office vowing to kill President Obama’s health care law (and who has since voted three times to repeal it) took advantage of a key provision in it: the provision that allows him to keep his elder daughter on his congressional health insurance plan. Meanwhile, both candidates downplayed their wealth …

Semon Says: Bill O'Reilly is Wrong ... And So is Ed Markey

Jeff Semon, a Lexington Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in the Fifth District, says preventing petroleum exports won't lower prices for Americans.

The following was provided on behalf of Jeff Semon, a Lexington Republican running for U.S. Congress in the Fifth District. Bill O’Reilly is often maligned by the left wing for being wrong in his political views, so it is a rare exception when conservatively minded individuals disagree with O’Reilly as well. Recently, Bill has been in favor of a proposition to prevent petroleum manufacturers from exporting gasoline that is made domestically here in the United States. The premise of this argument is that stopping exports will lower prices for people here in America.   This view is also supported by U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (MA-5) who is in favor of this failed protectionist position for both gasoline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has …

This year’s Democratic – and Republican – primary falls on Sept. 6, just three days after Labor Day. VIDEO: The Jill Stein Experience

During a Super Tuesday spent at home in Lexington, the local Green Party presidential hopeful opened up to Patch about the energized youth and what victory would mean to her.

Heading into this week’s end, Lexington’s Green Party presidential hopeful, Jill Stein, is nine for nine in primaries and appears in prime position to grab the party’s nomination.  And, even as she’s been frustrated at times about how difficult it can be to uncover good news about each passing primary, Stein has been equally as excited about the energy she encountered out on the campaign trail. Having hit a number of college towns and Occupy outposts over the first six months of her campaign, Stein, 61, says it’s exciting how the younger generation, as it comes of political age, is connecting with Green Party ideas and solutions. “There’s no doubt that the coming of age politically of a whole new generation is very much a part of this …

Super Tuesday: Wang Wins Housing Authority Seat, Romney Romps

In the town's only contested race for elected office, Weidong Wang edged out Dan McCabe to claim a seat on the Lexington Housing Authority. Former Gov. Mitt Romney easily outpaced his competition in the Republican primary.

There was just one contested race for elected office yesterday in Lexington, but it was a close one.  According to unofficial preliminary results released last night by the Town Clerk's Office, Weidong Wang, a political newcomer in town who positioned himself as a voice for Lexington's Asian community, narrowly defeated Dan McCabe to win a five-year term on the Lexington Housing Authority. Just 24 percent of Lexington's 21,520 registered voters turned out for the annual Town Elections, which coincided with Super Tuesday and the Massachusetts presidential primary. Housing Authority was the only contested race for elected office and Wang earned 2,295, edging out McCabe's tally of 2,033. The difference between the two fell well short of the …
