On Tuesday evening, February 5 at 7:00 p.m. Cary Memorial Library will host the third in its series of Science Café programs. Science Café events bring local scientists face-to-face with the general public, for a lively and interactive scientific discussion, which takes place in a casual setting. These cafés offer access to cutting-edge discoveries and the scientists who make them, in a fun format which focuses on questions/answers and audience participation. To add to the informal atmosphere, beverages and snacks will be provided by the Library.
Cary Library is very excited to have Dr. Vladimir Bulovic as the special guest scientist. Dr. Bulović is a professor of electrical engineering at MIT, leading the Organic and Nanostructured Electronics Laboratory, and directing the Microsystems Technology Laboratories. He is the author of over 140 research articles and the inventor of over 50 U.S. patents in the areas of light emitting diodes, lasers, photovoltaics, photodetectors and chemical sensors.
This installment of Science Cafe will focus on technologies now being developed which will provide transformational energy-efficient solutions for the future. In his lab, Dr. Bulovic and his colleagues are discovering and designing uses for nano-materials that will help create the next generations of solar cells, light bulbs and displays. Soon you may be watching paper-thin televisions powered by the sun, using his discoveries! Join us to find out all about it!
Cary Library wishes to thank Dr. Jagesh Shah, Associate Professor of Systems Biology at Harvard University, for agreeing to serve as moderator for the Science Cafe. The Science Cafe @ Cary Library is generously underwritten by the Cary Memorial Library Foundation.
All Science Café events are free, and are open to all ages--- from teenagers to retirees. All you need is an interest in science and a willingness to join in the conversation. Space is limited, and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. Come early to get a great seat!
