Nobel Prize winner Wangari Matthai began an environmental movement in her native Kenya that resulted in the planting of millions of trees. Her actions were inspirational to many of her countrywomen and contributed to democracy in that country.

More About Cary Memorial Library
Cary Memorial Library was renovated and expanded, reopening in April 2004, with a larger children's room, more public service spaces, enhanced meeting rooms and technological advances. There is a meeting room that seats 125 people, and numerous quiet study areas available. The library also offers a children's room, young adult collection, adult fiction and non-fiction collections, reference materials and a range of audiovisual material.
