Katherine Clark Adds to Fundraising Lead in Race for Congress

State Senator Katherine Clark, D-Melrose, has raised nearly $500,000 in her race for Congress in the Fifth Congressional District of Massachusetts. Clark will report $228,000 raised in the second quarter and has $402,000 on hand as she campaigns for the U.S. House. Clark's fundraising total and cash on hand put her more than $100,000 ahead of any other candidate.

"I'm delighted and proud of the terrific support that we've received just a few months into our campaign," Clark said. "I'm working to carry this early momentum all the way to Washington to fight for working families like mine against Republican extremists."

Katherine Clark is a candidate for the seat that will be open once U.S. Rep. Edward Markey is sworn in as a U.S. Senator on July 16. A special election is expected to be scheduled for December, with a primary in October.

"Massachusetts worked hard to send Ed Markey to the Senate," Clark said. "I'm running to fight for the same progressive issues that matter to Markey and Massachusetts families: protecting women's rights, keeping our promises to seniors, addressing climate change and making college more affordable."

Last week, Clark received two major labor union endorsements: the NAGE/IBPO/SEIU Local 5000, representing 22,000 workers, and the Teamsters Local 25, representing over 11,000 workers. Katherine has already been endorsed in her race for Congress by the Women’s Campaign Fund and has been placed “On The List” by EMILY’s List.

Katherine was sworn in for her second term as a Massachusetts State Senator representing Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winchester on January 2, 2013. She was first elected in March 2008 to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Senator Clark serves as the Chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse. She also serves on the Joint Committees on Public Health and Public Safety and Homeland Security. Senator Clark is a member of the Advisory Council for the Department of Early Education and Care. In 2011, Senator Clark was appointed to the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy Advisory Board at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
