New England College of Business and Finance Appoints Lexington Resident Michele Jurgens as Chair of the Master’s Program in Business Ethics and Compliance

New England College of Business and Finance (NECB), recently named by the U.S. Department of Education as the most affordable private college in New England and the leading institution of online education designed for working adults seeking career advancement, today announced Michele Jurgens has joined the team as Chair of the Master of Science in Business Ethics and Compliance program. She will be responsible for overseeing one of NECB’s most innovative graduate programs. The MBEC prepares graduates for leadership positions in ethics and compliance management and educates them in compliance practices to help them develop compliance programs for their individual companies.  Michele will be ensuring that the MBEC program continues to meet the needs of the Eastern U.S. business community, the NECB partner corporations, and NECB’s students.

“Michele brings more than 20 years of experience of executive leadership in strategy, marketing and management consulting to NECB,” said Dr. Sharon L.  Fross, Provost of NECB. “Our Master’s Program in Business Ethics and Compliance is the first U.S. program of its kind, and we look forward to continuing to build it with Professor Jurgens’ leadership and insight.”

Prior to joining NECB, Jurgens taught strategy, corporate social responsibility and management to executives and graduate students for Harvard Business Publishing, Hult International Business School and Harvard Extension School. She also spent four years as a director, custom programs at Harvard Business School, where she developed and delivered executive education and development programs for major corporations in Europe, Asia and the U.S.  Before joining Harvard Business School, she was an executive in the Accor Group, one of the world’s largest conglomerates in the services and hospitality industry.

“In the wake of economic disasters like the sub-prime mortgage crisis, it is more important than ever to provide business leaders with a background in ethics and compliance” said Jurgens. “I look forward to growing this program into a leading example of ethics education.”

Jurgens graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in economics and from INSEAD with an MBA. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in business at Bentley University where she is a research fellow with the Harold S. Geneen Institute for Corporate Governance.
