'An Evening of Truth and Beauty' a Tribute to Educator Doc Fiveash

Former students, colleagues, friends and loved ones will be paying respect to a beloved Lexington educator who passed on September 19 after battling neuroendocrine tumors. 

On Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, a group of former students, colleagues and friends of Dr. Michael Fiveash will host a memorial celebration of his life, A Lexington Tribute to Doc Five - an Evening of Truth and Beauty, at Cary Hall, 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, the event post states. The event will be free and open to the public, with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m and the program set to start at 7:30 p.m.

"The evening will feature musical performances, recitations and readings that would make Doc laugh and cry," the release states. 

There will be musical performances from Amanda Palmer, Joe Musacchia, Josiah Reibstein, Benjamin Ruesch, Katie Lyon-Pingree, Dan Rodriguez and Laura Lapoint, a dance performance by Ryan Casey, as well as a performance of the song “Apologies to Catullus” (Poem of Catullus translated and adapted by Bryan Williams (LHS'91) set to music by John Kramer and sung for many years by seniors at LHS graduation.  

The event will also include a video compilation of former students telling their stories of how they were inspired by Doc Five's classes, a recorded violin performance of Sibelius by Hao-Kai Pai, and Erik Silva's "Doc-Umentary."

 In addition, there will be a recitation of "Ithaka" in Greek by Eleni Sacre, the Gilgamesh story by Rick Reibstein, "Ulysses" by Peter Meek, and presentations of a Class of 1979 Tribute to O Magister by John Conceison and "A Psalm of Five Ashes", a poem based on the Latin vulgate text of the popular 23rd Psalm, by Trevor Uhl. 

"Please share your own thoughts and memories of Doc Five on the tribute wall at the event," the post invites.
