Luminary Night Will Light up the Town Friday
Luminary Night will light up Lexington neighborhoods and downtown starting Friday at 7 p.m.
The Lexington Historical Society, in partnership with LexFUN, Lexington's Five and Under Network, are holding Luminary Night, a non-denominational celebration of the holidays Friday, Dec. 10.
The festivities will light up the town, starting Friday at 7 p.m. Residents, businesses, historic sites and others in town purchase luminary kits, which include white tea lights and white luminescent bags. People set the bags up along their driveways, walkways and around their shops, and the whole town will be lit up from 7 to 10 p.m.
Lexington Historical Society Member Anne Lee said she hopes residents will enjoy the communal aspects of the celebration.

"The idea is to get neighbors together, to get out and meet and enjoy the beauty of it all," she said. "Maybe neighbors will have an open house, or a party – we just think it's a great way to have neighbors meet neighbors and also get people to come into town because we will have the entire Historical Society lit up, and also Emery Park."
Organizers specifically choose to call the event Luminary Night because it represents a celebration of all walks of life and beliefs.

"It's non-denominational, because the idea of light ties into so many different religions, or none, just celebrating life, and also it being close to the winter solstice, we thought it was appropriate," Lee said.
This is the second time the Historical Society has put on Luminary Night. The idea came from Wellesley, Lee said, when last year, LexFUN contacted the Historical Society to ask about partnering to bring a similar event to Lexington.
Luminary kits will be sold through Friday, Dec. 10, the night of the celebration, at the building, at 13 Depot Square from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The kits consist of 15 white bags and 15 tea lights, and cost $20.
Funds from kit sales support the LexFUN preschool scholarship fund and the Historical Society's education programs on the American Revolution.
