A Winchester resident reported seeing a mountain lion in the Dunster Lane, Pepper Hill Drive neighborhood off Ridge Street in Winchester, according to Winchester Police.

The neighborhood is near Whipple Hill in Lexington.

Winchester Police called in the Massachusetts Environmental Police. An officer viewed the paw print and said the tracks “strongly resembled that of a mountain lion,” said Winchester Police.

Photos of the tracks were sent to Mass Wildlife for verification.

The last confirmed mountain lion sighting in Massachusetts was in 1858. There have been recent reports, but none have been confirmed, according to the Associated Press.
