Traffic Alert: Expect Delays on Major Roadways

Plan accordingly when heading out in Lexington.

Driver in the area of Hanscom Air Force Base, including those on the highways, can expect traffic delays this week and weekend.

According to a notice posted on the Town of Lexington's web site, two separate projects will cause traffic delays.

The first is that Hanscom AFB Security Operations will be conducting 100% I.D. checks at all gates entering the base for the remainder of the week. This will result in significant delays on Hartwell Ave, Bedford Street and may extend to Route 128.

Hanscom AFB conduit installation

The other project that will cause delays is conduit installation at the base. Crews will be continuing the work of pavement and sidewalk restoration.

Work under this project includes conduit installation along Marrett Road (from Spring Street to Mass Avenue), Mass Avenue (from Marrett Road to Wood Street), Wood Street (from Mass Avenue to Hartwell Avenue) and Hartwell Avenue (from Wood Street to the base).

Work will occur during the week and some Saturdays.  Work times will be Saturdays, 7:30 am. to 4:00 pm. and Sundays 9 am. to 4 pm.

Delays should be expected due to the construction, the notice states.

"All disturbed areas, including sidewalks, will be properly restored upon the completion of the work," the notice states. "While crews are working along the length of a road, no full road closures are anticipated but partial ones likely. In cases where the single lane traffic is backing up, the Police Department may set up a detour."

The areas of major impact will be the intersections and may require road closures.
