1. It's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: The third Monday of January every year is a United States federal holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

2. Sorry, Stuff's Closed: As it's a federal holiday, town offices, public schools, the U.S. Postal Service, banks and many offices are closed today.

3. Open for Business: Still, you can take advantage of this day off from work or school because many retailers, restaurants and entertainment-based businesses will be open today. For instance, , the Mass Ave movie theater, is open and showing Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy at 1, 3:45 and 6:45 p.m. and The Descendants at 1:15, 4 and 7 p.m.

4. MLK Day Events Nearby: A handful of Lexington youths will perform this afternoon with the Boston Children’s Chorus and Melinda Doolittle in the BCC’s ninth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough Street. And, closer to home, there's an MLK Day Celebration at 3 p.m. this afternoon at The Winchester Unitarian Society and the 24th annual Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance at 6:45 p.m. at Arlington Town Hall.

5. More Sun, More Cold: Should be sunny and chilly today, with a calm wind, lows of about 32 and a wind chill factor of zero, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts a slight chance of snow overnight before temperatures warm to just under 40.
