And said Lead Physician Nazaret Derkevorkian, MD, who will manage care at the Lexington Center:

“CareWell Urgent Care will be the place to go in Lexington for quality medical care in a comfortable environment when someone has an episodic, but still urgent, non-life threatening illness or injury such as colds, flu, infections, fractures, cuts, rashes, or allergic reactions. We can also help people with health screenings, certain physicals, vaccinations and flu shots."

“From the moment you walk in, until your visit is over, you and your family will be cared for and made comfortable. Dr. Derkevorkian, added, “We have 3 exam rooms, and patients will benefit from on-site x-ray and lab capabilities.”

CareWell Urgent Care functions as an extension of a patient’s own primary care provider, whether the patient lives nearby or is visiting from another area. With the patient’s permission, CareWell will forward x-rays, lab results and diagnostic notes to the patient’s own doctor within 24 hours of their visit.

“The popularity of urgent care centers throughout the country is due to the desire for immediate access to care for non-life-threatening illness or injury in a timely and effective manner,” said Lohman, who has 20 years’ experience in the healthcare care industry, the last 6 in urgent care development. “Also, early treatment usually results in better health outcomes—a key factor in the growth in urgent care centers nationwide.”

Many health insurance companies including Blue Cross, Cigna and Aetna now recommend an urgent care center when a patient calls their insurer’s hotline after hours. According to the Urgent Care Association of America, in 2010, there were 8,700 urgent cares centers in the United States. This number increased by about 300 each year in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. The average number of patients seen per center is about 350 a week.
