Neillios Wins Inaugural 'Best Of' Contest

The gourmet kitchen on Bedford Street grabbed the top spot in our best sandwich shop showdown.

The results are in and was named best place to grab a sandwich in Lexington in this week's inaugural Best of Patch poll.

And it wasn't even close.

In 127 voters had cast their ballots when the poll closed at 9 a.m. this morning and voted who in Lexington serves the best sandwich. Neillios, home of the Turkey Terrific, garnered 58 of those votes.

In second was , with 25 votes. took third, with 14 votes.

"Kevin and I are thrilled to be voted best sandwich shop in Lexington," storeowner Chorlette O’Neill said Friday morning."We try to do a lot for the town, so it's really nice to see people appreciating us in this way by voting for us as having the best sandwiches in town."

Though they inherited the Turkey Terrific when they took over the business back in 2002, Kevin and Chorlette O'Neill have livened up the menu and use fresh-roasted, hand-carved meats on signature sandwiches. Neillios roasts 20-plus turkeys every day and regularly sells out of the homemade pastrami sandwich specials on Thursdays and Saturdays, Chorlette O'Neill said.

"We take a lot of pride in that our sandwiches are a little outside the norm and we do roast our meat fresh everyday," said Chorlette. "I guess that's the secret to our sandwiches selling well."

Commenters here on Patch aren't shy about saying what they love about the gourmet kitchen and catering service on Bedford Street.

"Once you go to Neillio's, you'll never go anywhere else," Patch user Mara Mayer wrote earlier this week. "Soups, salads, sandwiches for lunch and fresh or frozen entrees, sides and desserts for dinner! You can't beat the service - always friendly and helpful! And who can resist Kevin and Chorlette's charm??? The best!"

"Great turkey sandwiches," wrote Jean Kurien.
