New Shop Opens in Lexington Center

A Pocketful of Posies, located at 1656 Mass Avenue, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.

There was a good sized crowd on hand to welcome in a new gift shop in Lexington's center during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.

Local officials, fellow business owners and member of the community came to check out the new gift shop A Pocketful of Posies, located at 1656 Mass Avenue, across the street from the post office. The shop had a "soft open" in September

"It was wonderful," owner Kristin Smith said of the crowd at the ribbon cutting. "It's overwhelming that busy people came out to support me. It really makes me feel good."

According to A Pocketful of Posies's Facebook page, the shop, located in an old schoolhouse in the center of town, carries handmade wreaths and flowers arrangements, candles, bath products, gourmet foods, clothing, jewelry and home decor among other offerings.

Smith said the shop inventory will also change over time, giving shoppers new options. Favorites will remain but there will also be new items coming in on a continuous basis.

"I want the shop to be versatile," she said. "Everything will be high-quality and I like to have a variety of items. There will always be something new - different things to keep people interested."

Smith said she is happy to be open and to be located in Lexington.

"It's very exciting," she said. "I'm nervous but very excited. I think I've chosen the right place, I've had a very warm welcome from the community."
