Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 15

Candidates forum, hazardous waste collection, meetings and more today in Lexington.

1. Hazardous Waste Disposal Day for Small Businesses: There's a small business waste disposal day today at the Minuteman Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility on Hartwell Avenue. This event is intended to provide painters, landscapers, swimming pool service providers, printers, dentists and many others a chance to unload hazardous waste that cannot be disposed of in the normal rubbish or garbage. 2. All 3rd Middlesex Senate Candidates to Attend LWV Forum: All seven candidates -- the five Democrats, including Lexington's Mike Barrett, and two Republicans -- will participate in a League of Women Voters candidates' forum at 7:30 p.m. this evening at the , 1276 Main St., Concord

3. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, the only public meetings posted for today is the Recreation Committee at 7 p.m. at the .

4. Lexington Citizens' Acadmey Coming Up: The fourth annual Lexington Citizens’ Academy will begin in mid-September. The 10-session Academy is specifically designed to familiarize citizens with the departments and services of Town government. 5. Showers Maybe: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms today with a high of 82, according to the National Weather Service, which predicts more precipitation possible overnight with a low in the mid-70s.
