NWS: Overnight Snow Showers Could Mean Slippery Morning Commute

A special weather statement from the National Weather Service warns that snow showers are expected to last through 8 a.m. Tuesday morning and commuters should allow extra time and expect slippery spots.

Overnight snow could make for a slippery morning commute for much of Massachusetts, including Lexington, according to the National Weather Service.

In a special weather statement issued at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, the NWS advised that snow showers were expected to affect much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and parts of southern New Hampshire overnight and into early Tuesday.

“Snow showers moving east from New York will reach Worcester around 1 a.m. and Manchester, Boston and Providence between 2 and 3 a.m.,” the Service said, adding the snow showers are expected to continue through at least 8 a.m.

Total accumulation should total less than an inch in most places, including Lexington, though parts of northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire could see up to two inches of snowfall.

“Regardless of the exact amount, this may cause slippery spots on roads and sidewalks during the morning rush hour,” the NWS statement said. “If you will be traveling in the morning, allow extra time and expect slippery spots.”
