Question of the Day: Blood Donor?

They want your blood.

No, we're not talking about the contemplative Cullen clan from "Twilight," nor the more agressive vampires from Bon Temps in the "True Blood" TV series.

Coming off a couple of down months for donations, the as it's facing a critical shortage of all types. 

The are holding a blood drive July 27, starting at 2 p.m. and, according to road signs, the Lexington Masons are hosting a blood drive tomorrow at the .

So, with that in mind, we want to know Are you a blood donor? What made you decide to give blood for the first time? If not, what's stopping you?

I'm glad you asked - because I thought about it as I wrote About Town, knowing I can't, but desperately wanting to help. I gave once when I was 18 and then later was turned down because of an inherited blood disease, one that means a reduction in the Factor VIII clotting cells. The Red Cross doesn't want my blood. That's why I told people to check the website and make sure they are eligible. I'm betting there are a lot of people who want to, but can't.

Yes I give blood regularly. Just donated last week at the Knights of Columbus, along with my 18 year old son. I think it is extremely important for those who are able to donate, to donate as often as they can. Lynnell Stern
