1. Summer Singing Soiree
Where/When: Hancock-Clarke Parsonage, 36 Hancock St; 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10
Why Go: The Lexington Historical Society's Colonial Singers will perform "Soldiers & Sweethearts," a look at women and men in 18th century military life through popular songs of the era.

Where/When: 1 Moody St, Waltham; 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11
Why Go: Now in its 22nd year, the Waltham Farmers Market features more than 30 vendors selling fresh, Massachusetts-grown fruits and vegetables, Asian and African specialty produce, herbs, cheese, eggs, maple products, hamburger, grass-fed beef, pork, and other farm products, along with flowers, wine, pasta, coffee, preserves, bread, pies, pastries, soap, jewelry, bags, textiles and other handcrafts.

3. Contra Dance in Depot Square
Where/When: Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Sq.; 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11
Why Go: FAC’s free outdoor contra dance series continues in Lexington's Depot Square, with caller Sue Rosen and music by Julie Metcalf (fiddle) and Eric Eid-Reiner (piano). This is the second of the two dances in this new series. Beginners and experienced dancers, singles and couples are all welcome.

4. Corn Festival
Where/When: , 10 Pleasant St.; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12
Why Go: Because the farm wants to share its "corny goodness" with the community. Plus, you'll have a chance to be crowned shucking champ, taste all kinds of corn recipes as the kids enjoy some fun activities.

5. Sujata Dharap, Abstract in Acrylics, A Demonstration
Where/When: Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, 130 Waltham St.; 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 12
Why Go: The Lexington Arts and Crafts Society’s Painters Guild presents a demonstration by Sujata Dharap, an internationally known artist who has designed and executed 150 murals in several mediums for interiors, exteriors and landscaped areas; works as a colour consultant to architects and has been teaching children art, clay modeling and pottery for three decades.
