Habilitation: A Model of Memory Care


Mal Allard, Director of The Courtyard at Youville Place, will discuss habilitation, a model of memory care developed in the '90s. Habilitation has produced significant, positive results both for care partners and those with dementia. Designed to optimize function by encouraging activities in which people with dementia can be successful, it promotes positive emotions and minimizes stress. Habilitation involves six domains - communication, emotion, function, physical, auditory and sensory.
