Halalisa Singers present "To Reach the Golden Door:Songs of the Immigration Experience"

From Colonial “Bound for the Promised Land” and Irish “Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears.” through Irving Berlin’s “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor” and the tongue-in-cheek yiddish “Lebn Zol Columbus” (“Long Live Columbus!”) to  Bollywood's “Balleilakka” this concert of songs from the refugees, strivers, dreamers, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free  will touch and move you. Featuring songs from Armenia, South Africa, Syria and Costa Rica and contemporary pieces including “Would You Harbor Me?” by Ysaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock,  “Hymn for a New Land” by Revels music director George Emlen there is something for everyone to connect to and enjoy. The concert closes with a gospel swing arrangement of “America the Beautiful" and audience sing along. Come and join in as we celebrate Immigration, the truly American journey!
