Science Cafe @Cary Library with Guest Scientist Dr. Welkin Johnson

On Tuesday evening, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. Cary Memorial Library will present the second installment in its new series, “Science Café @ Cary Library.”  Cary Memorial Library is proud to be the first public library in Massachusetts to sponsor a Science Café program.

Special guest scientist for the November 20th program will be Dr. Welkin Johnson, Associate Professor of Biology at Boston College.  In his lab, Dr Johnson is studying this question: Why do some viruses, such as HIV, successfully jump to humans (giving rise to frightening outbreaks and epidemics) while other viruses fail completely?

To find the answer, Dr. Johnson and his colleagues study how viruses and their hosts interact at a molecular level. Learn all about Dr. Johnson's research on retroviruses, virus evolution, and host genetics… for great conversation and cutting edge research, join us at the Science Café at Cary Library!
