Lexington Community Education presents: Remembering Robert Francis "The Best Neglected Poet" with Poet and Author Fran Quinn

Robert Frost once said that Robert Churchill Francis was “of all the great neglected poets, the greatest.”' 

Born in Upland, Pennsylvania at the very beginning of the 20th century, Francis studied at Harvard and lived for over sixty years near Amherst, Massachusetts in a two-room, tree-shrouded home that he called ''Fort Juniper.”  Francis’s mature poems are often charmingly whimsical, presenting conundrums and mysteries with a light, lyrical touch, written in a style that is both intensely crafted and deeply personal. 

Poet Fran Quinn knew Francis personally and acts as one of his literary executors. In this evening presentation he will share stories, insights, and examples of Francis’s work. 

Fran Quinn's poetry has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes and won the Hopewell Prize. He has published three books of poetry, most recently A Horse of Blue Ink.  Fran now travels the US doing poetry workshops and tutoring aspiring poets. He was a founding member of the Worcester County (MA) Poetry Association, and has given numerous workshops and readings throughout the country.
