New England Revolution to Honor Service Members at Sept. 21 Match
The New England Revolution and New England Revolution Charitable Foundation have planned a series of events and activities celebrating the region’s first responders, military heroes, veterans and their families at the team’s upcoming match against D.C. United on September 21.
Through a partnership with the USO, the New England Revolution Charitable Foundation invites members of the Armed Services – including active duty members, reservists and family members from all five military branches – as well as New England police, fire and medical personnel to attend the game free of charge.
Service members interested in attending the Revolution match on September 21 can apply for tickets by completing a program application (available on the team’s website here).
Special “Salute to Heroes” night activities include:
• U.S. Army vehicles will be on display in NRG Plaza and the parking lots
• The Army will set up pull-up bars for fan competitions and create custom dog tags for fans
• Cell Phones for Soldiers will collect gently-used phones for soldiers overseas
• The night’s Honor Guard will feature members of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department
• The USO Liberty Bells will perform the National Anthem
• A large United States flag will be presented on-field during the National Anthem
• The U.S. Army will perform enlistment ceremonies on the Gillette Stadium field prior to the game
• A raffle of Revolution memorabilia will be held, with proceeds benefiting the USO
Also, in conjunction with the Revolution’s charitable drive series, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department will collect new or gently-used coats before the game, which will be distributed to community centers throughout the area. All fans who donate will receive an autographed Revolution player card.
