Second Annual Winter MusicFest!

The Pura Vida Project, a student led charitable organization based in Lexington, will be hosting the Second Annual Winter MusicFest! on January 25th to raise funds for El Hogar, a school in Honduras that helps children rise out of poverty.

With performances by world renowned Lexington teens Yuki Beppu (violin) and Daniel Kim (piano) as well as Lexington High School’s acclaimed a cappella groups, this concert is both an opportunity to support the education of children in Honduras and a chance to hear the very best music that Lexington has to offer!

In 2011, a group of 30 students from Clarke Middle School traveled to Costa Rica to study abroad where they volunteered at a local school. Moved by their experience, they formed the Pura Vida Project to raise money for the school the next year. In 2013, they raised money for Hospitalito Atitlán, a hospital in rural Guatemala. This year, the students, now juniors at Lexington High School, have chosen to support El Hogar.

El Hogar has four schools in Honduras that each provide children a home and food, and an education that they can use to improve their family’s living situation. As the crime rate in Honduras continues to rise, the importance of the schools for the children grows. The goal is to one day end poverty through education. Since 1979, El Hogar has given hope to many Honduran children, starting with five scared boys who were given a home at the Episcopal Church in Tegucigalpa. Now, over 250 boys and girls are enrolled in the four El Hogar schools in Honduras. More information can be found at http://www.elhogar.org/

The annual Winter MusicFest!, hosted this year by Justin Aramati, the LHS Wind Ensemble conductor, is an event unlike any another as students, parents, teachers and friends come together to hear great music and raise money for a truly worthy cause.  For those of you who attended this concert last year, you will remember that it is an event not to be missed!
