New Culinary Course Offerings from Kids Cooking Green

Lexington-based Kids Cooking Green is inviting local youth to join them in the kitchen for some fun, great food and a lively discussion in its new classes for kids in grades 5 through 12.

Cookie Making/ Fancy Cookie Decorating $38 Tuesday, Jan. 17 3:30-5:30  p.m.

The Cookie Making/Fancy Cookie Decorating class is open to students in grades 5-8. We will begin this class preparing a sugar cookie dough, explaining the techniques of creaming the butter, and rolling out the dough. We will then bake and decorate our cookies to look like the professionals do! With the guidance of Professional cookie making Ravneet Sidhu, owner of , you will learn how to use a pastry bag, and how to decorate your edible creations to look like a professional baker created them! Each student will leave class with a box of cookies to be enjoyed at home.

This class is taught by Lori Deliso, Kids Cooking Green co-founder, with special instruction by Ravneet Sidhu, owner of Bakers Bloom. Based in Lexington, Bakers Bloom creates artfully decorated cookies in charming designs, made with the finest ingredients including organic eggs, butter and Madagascar vanilla extract!

Pasta Making $38 Tuesday, Jan. 24 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The Pasta Making class is open to students in grades 5-8. In this hands on pasta workshop kids will learn how to make, roll and cut their own pasta. How do you flavor the dough? Did you know there is a lemon flavored pasta? How do you stuff all that filling inside of a ravioli? We will mix up some filling and make our own handmade ravioli, just like the professionals do! Each participant will go home with a box of their own fresh made pasta or ravioli to be enjoyed at home. This class is perfect for beginners or the more experienced.

This class is taught by Lori Deliso, Kids Cooking Green co-founder. Lori is married to Dave, owner of Dave’s Fresh Pasta in Somerville Mass., & she promises to share some pasta secrets with you!

Teens In The Kitchen: Italian Cooking! $45. Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Italian Cooking class is open to students in grades 9-12. Teens in the Kitchen is a fun, hands on cooking class specifically geared for high school kids who love to cook, or want to learn basic skills. The class focuses on knife skills, safety, and cooking skills, with discussion about how our food choices affect the environment and our health. We will prepare a full meal that includes Polenta with vegetables and cheese, assorted greens with homemade dressing, and dessert! This class is appropriate for all cooking levels.

Teens In The Kitchen! Mexican Cooking: $45 Tuesday Jan. 24, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Mexican Cooking class is open to students in grades 9-12. A fun, hands-on cooking class, Teens in the Kitchen is specifically geared for high school kids who love to cook or want to learn basic skills. Knife skills, safety and environmental issues will be discussed as we make Tacos with all the fixins', and dessert that features chocolate from Taza (a local chocolate manufacturer). Class will conclude with a fabulous sit down to our Mexican Fiesta! This class is appropriate for all cooking levels.

Teens In the Kitchen classes are taught by Sonia DeMarta, co-founder and former manager of Lexington Farmers' Market. Sonia has a Masters Degree in Environmental Management with emphasis on food production, and has been teaching with Kids Cooking Green for 2 years now. She welcomes Kids Cooking Green graduates to participate in these advanced cooking classes.
