Spring Cleaning for Your Home Sale

Springtime is a great time to buy a home. After a long and particularly harsh winter, buyers are out pounding the pavement with renewed vigor for a home search during warmer weather. And spring is a great time to show a house – it’s a time for a fresh start even for a home that has been on the market throughout the winter. As the world begins to bloom again, a home with a well-manicured yard and fresh-looking interior is bound to see a lot of interest.

Here are a few great (and easy!) ways to capitalize on the glorious weather and make that spring home sale:

Clean It Up. There’s a reason so many people engage in “spring cleaning.” Not only can you throw open the windows and air out a house that’s been shuttered throughout the winter, it’s easier to get rid of accumulated belongings when you don’t have to scramble over snowbanks to do it. Lots of organizations hold recycling events and stage donation drives in the spring, so it’s a good time to divest yourself of anything you no longer use, from electronics to paper clutter to gently-used clothing, toys, baby gear, and even home appliances. Consider renting a Dumpster and really giving your home a thorough de-cluttering.

Shape It Up. Now that you can actually get outdoors, it’s a good time to repair gutters, shutters, and any other exterior fixtures that have taken a beating throughout the winter. Have a window-cleaning service wash the outside of your windows. Mend any fences or outbuildings that haven’t weathered the winter well. Consider a fresh coat of paint. Bring out the patio furniture. Open the pool. And inspect driveways and sidewalks for signs of wear and tear.

Spruce It Up. Curb appeal is never better than in the spring and summertime. Invest a little time and a little money and get your yard looking its best. Clean up any debris left from the fall and winter. Break out the lawn mower and give the grass a trim. Prune bushes and trees so that the exterior of your house is visible and accessible. Planting a few annuals, investing in a couple of hanging baskets of bright-colored spring flowers, and hanging a seasonal wreath on your front door are all good ways to make your house dazzle.

Brighten It Up. Inside your home, throw open the curtains and let the gorgeous spring light flood into rooms. Natural light makes a home seem inviting, and you’ll be able to capitalize on the longer days and additional hours of sunlight that spring brings our way. Make sure the insides of your windows are clean, too, so the light is most effective. Cheerful spring flowers and muted floral scents can carry the springtime indoors and give your home a light, airy quality.

Spring is a time of new beginnings, and just being able to spend more time outside can lift our spirits. With this in mind, throw yourself into getting your home ready for sale and sit back to enjoy the offers that come in!
