Educate the Candidate

Barrett listens to voters' concerns across the district.

Mike Barrett, Democrat running for the local State Senate seat, is holding “Educate the Candidate” meetings in July and August. Endorsed by Cong. Barney Frank, former State Sen. Carol Amick and State Rep. Jay Kaufman – and informed by 17 years each in the private and public sectors – Barrett emphasizes environmental protection, education, healthcare, human services and the economy.  “Educate the Candidate” is a set of open-air office hours in which voters meet Mike and discuss the issues most important to them.  Barrett’s website, www.BarrettForStateSenate.org, has more information.

Last Tuesday, at the Lexington Farmers Market, Barrett talked to residents about creative ways to "think globally but act locally" on climate change. Then, on Saturday, at Lincoln Station, Barrett heard from local environmental leaders about open space preservation and, from concerned parents, about the need to support services for special needs children and adults.

"Every day, as long as I make sure to talk to voters," said Barrett, "I end the day smarter than I began it. All the hoopla aside, a campaign should be a listening experience for candidates. This one has been for me."
