Obituary: Robert Havern III, State Senator, Representative

Havern served in the Massachusetts State House for 20 years.

Robert ‘Bob’ A. Havern III, the former state senator for Massachusetts’ Fourth Middlesex District and state representative from Arlington, died Saturday, July 19, according to his obituary. He was 65.

Havern, a Democrat, served as state senator for 16 years, from 1991-2007, and state representative for four years, from 1987-1991. Prior to his State House offices, he was an Arlington selectman from 1978-1986.

The Fourth Middlesex District includes Arlington, Billerica and Burlington and parts of Lexington and Woburn. Havern, of Boston and Arlington, resigned from office in August 2007 to take a job at Mintz Levin.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maureen C. (Crane) Havern; his children Timothy Havern and his wife Mary of Boston and Ned Havern of Boston; his sisters Nancy Leahy and her husband Stephen of Burlington, Kate Boyle and her husband John of Plymouth, New Hampshire, Cynthia Bouvier and her husband Jeff of Arlington and Laura Hegarty and her husband Rob of Arlington; and his wife siblings Daniel Crane of Cambridge, Kevin Crane of Cambridge, Michael Crane of Braintree, Katie Millett of Abington, Eileen Marasco of Amherst and Rose Morse of Beverly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in Saint Agnes’ Church, 30 Medford St., Arlington, on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Saint Agnes’ Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington.
